Americans - 12/23/06 (Pictures)
漫漫長夏的苦惱, 加上火熾高張的煎熬, 暑氣逼人難耐. 偏又逢農曆潤雙七 (兩個七月), 渴望凉爽的八月天彷彿在做夢中.On 12/23/06, TAA-DFW sponsored an impromptu gathering of young Taiwanese Americans at a Dallas eatery (Oriental Lite). Attendees were mainly adult children of local Taiwanese Americans. The get together provided a networking opportunity for the young Taiwanese Americans from different walks of life. 全美台灣人 權協會三十週年紀念晚會 - 12/9/06 (Pictures and Report) 全美台灣人權協會於紀念晚會時頒發2006年台灣人權 獎,「鄭南榕紀念獎」 由許天賢先生獲得,「王康陸人權獎」由陳銘城先生獲得。許天賢牧師生於1951年,在1979年國際人權日的高雄事件 後,被國民黨政權從教堂的講台上抓走,時值她女兒的週歲,總共坐監三年,成了外來政權打擊本土長老教會的政治良心犯。 許天賢牧師出獄後,不但繼續牧會傳達上帝的公義,更進一步參與長老教會宣達台灣人權的事工。他曾任義光教會的牧師,台灣教會公報代理總編輯,並擔任第46 屆長老總會議長,現任新樓醫院牧部主任兼醫糾委員會副主席。陳銘城先生從當記者、黨外雜誌主編,到歸劃二二八及白色恐怖的相關活動。二、三十年來他長期追 蹤、採訪228受難者及其家屬,完成了白色恐怖出土歷史、海外黑名單與海外台獨運動史。 FAHR 2006 Banquet Announcement FAHR 2006 Award Recipients FAHR 2006 Human Rights Night Program ![]() 醫 學講座 - 11/18/06 (Pictures and Report) 達拉斯臺灣同鄉會很榮 幸邀請到一對醫生夫婦, Dr. John Wang (王競弘醫師) 和 Dr. Jean Wang (蕭茜芝醫師), 特地來為我們講解目前男女兩性最怵目驚心,令人隱憂的疾病--攝護腺癌 (prostate cancer) 和乳癌 (breast cancer). 王醫師專精於泌尿科. 他在 Greenville 的 Presbyterian Hospital 行醫濟世, 他的夫人- 蕭醫師則是放射線部門的名醫. 服務於 Dallas 的 Baylor Medical Center 的 Radiology Department. 他(她)們不但提供在醫學上最專業,最寶貴的健康診斷常識. 而且免費為各位解答疑難的問題. ![]() 中秋節的 晚會 - 10/7/06 (Pictures) 「台灣民主近況」專題演講 - 9/2/06 (Pictures) 全 美台灣同鄉會達拉斯分會與達拉斯台工會於九月二日,邀請祁夫潤博士(Jerome F. Keating, Ph.D.) 以「台灣民主近況」為題,探討台灣目前的政情,並作分析。祁夫潤博士是美國雪城大學哲學博士,他是作家兼教育學者,已在台生活長達18年之久,目前在台擔任專任教授,他 也是台灣的女婿(洋女婿)。Jerome F. Keating, Ph.D., educator, trainer, consultant and writer, currently lives in Taiwan. 名作家黃娟講她的文章『楊梅三部曲』- 7/30/06 (Pictures) 台美人名作家黃娟自1960年代即享譽台灣文壇,曾獲多項重要文學獎項,包括:吳濁流文學獎、扶輪社文學獎、吳三連文學 獎、台美基金會人文獎。「楊梅三部曲」為黃娟一生最重要的代表作,並被重量級小說家李喬喻為「台灣人的啟蒙書」,其重要性可見一斑。本書時間從日本殖民統 治寫到政黨輪替,空間從楊梅小鎮寫到台美人社會;將故事主人翁一生的經歷和台灣波瀾壯闊的現代史融合為一,集懷鄉文學與政治小說的特點於一爐。
25th TAA South Conference - 6/30/06-7/2/06 (Pictures, Report and Proclamation) TAA-DFW members converged in Austin for the annual TAA South Conference. This year's theme was, "Identity and awakening of Taiwanese worldwide (海內外台灣人的認同與覺醒)". Professor Lee Hsiao-Feng (李筱峰) was the keynote speaker. Several guest speakers, including Secretary Yao Jia-Wen, Major Martha VanDriel, Councilman Wang Ding-Yu and others were also on hand to present and answer questions. TaiHsin chorus and the TAA-DFW line dancers performed at the Taiwan Night to an audience of nearly 300 attendees.
TAA Picnic at the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve - 5/27/06 (Pictures) Over 160 attendees attended this year's picnic held at the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve in Plano. The event combined the traditional celebration of 端午節 with the opportunity to socialize in an outdoor setting. Food was plentiful, including 肉粽 (rice balls), rice noodles, several favorite side dishes and, of course, watermelon. Attendees were also given a special treat, shaved ice (machine donated by a TAA member) topped with various sweets and fruits. Physical activities at the picnic included walking the 2.6-mile paved trail, participating in a light Tai Chi workout and competing in various races around the picnic pavilion. Newcomers mingled with the old timers and introduced themselves over the microphone, old friends caught up on the latest news, heads of the various Taiwanese American organizations announced upcoming activities, babies were squeezed and held... Everyone had an enjoyable time.
Taiwanese Heritage Week Celebrations - Mayfest on 5/4/06-5/7/06 & TAA Puppet Show on 5/8/06 (Pictures) The 2006 Taiwanese Heritage Week was kicked off by the Taiwanese American Heritage Foundation, led by Mrs. Yaung-Hwa Chan, with an even bigger Taiwan Exhibit at Mayfest in Fort Worth. Three tents were set up to house children's games, Taiwanese products & souvenirs, calligraphy demonstrations and information brochures. As a special treat for the Mayfest visitors, Taiwanese puppet masters were on-hand to perform hourly shows. A special puppet show was performed on 5/8/06 for TAA members, children and all young-at-hearts at Maxim's Restaurant in Richardson.
Farwell to Dr. & Mrs. Chang - 4/29/06 (Pictures) TAA members and friends enjoyed a farewell dinner at 瑞華餐廳 to send off long-time Dallas residents, Dr. & Mrs. Sintong Chang, who are moving back to Taiwan to work and teach. Attendees took turns to give their well wishes.
228 Memorial Service (主 題:二二八,白色恐怖,與轉型期正義) - 2/26/05 (Story, Pictures) This year's 228 Memorial Service was co-sponsored by FAHR (Formosan Association for Human Rights) and TAA-DFW. Area Taiwanese Americans watched a documentary of 228 survivors and listened to the keynote speaker, Mr. Michael Lin (林世煜). Group dinner followed the service at Dallas Super Buffet.
