2004 Winter Seminars (Pictures)
Four seminars were held at the Carroilton Public Library on Saturday, 11/27/04.  The topics included, "Heart and Health", "Food Safety", "Post Election Analysis" and "FAPA and Grassroots Diplomacy".  About 100 attendees showed up for the various segments.
 
 
  

Hsin-chu Students Reception (Pictures)
Plano Sister Cities Inc. and TAA-DFW co-hosted a reception at Plano August Moon on 11/14/04 to honor the 14 visiting students, their chaperones and the host families.


Team Taiwan Races for Cure (Story and Pictures) (Pictures from Houston)
Dallas' Team Taiwan turned out in force for the Susan G Komen "Race for the Cure" event on Saturday, 10/16/04.  The 5K walk took place in the streets surrounding North Park Mall.


Mid-Autumn Festival (Pictures; See UTA-TSA website for more pictures)
A dinner celebration of mid-autumn festival was held on Saturday, 9/25/04.  About 160 attendees, including 60+ UTA-TSA students, enjoyed tasty food catered by August Moon, and freshly made mooncake from Houston.  The evening programs included country line dances led by TAA women, UTA students' wonderful rendition of "Lady Chang-Er Escapes to the Moon" and karaoke singing by many individuals.


Financial Investment Seminar
Michael Quiroga of Fidelity Investments presented a seminar on "Charting Your Course: Manage Your Portfolio in Today's Market" on Saturday, 7/31/04.  The seminar was attended by about 20 members, who learned about asset allocation and common investment pitfalls.

2004 TAA South Summer Conference (Story and Pictures)
This year's summer conference was held in Camp Allen located in Navasota, about one hour northwest of Houston.  The theme was "Taiwanese American Characteristics and Future Outlook".  The 3-day event, 7/16-7/18, attracted over 200 attendees from New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Houston, Dallas, Austin and College Station. 


Blueberry & Blackberry Picking (Pictures)
About a dozen families traveled to the Bailey Berry Patch on Saturday, 7/3/04, to pick blueberries and blackberries.  It was a "fruitful" trip for everyone who was able to make it.


Chen Ding-Nan Townhall Meeting (Ad, Details, Story and Pictures 1, 2)
Minister of Justice, Chen Ding-Nan, met with local Taiwanese Americans on 6/18/04 to share his views and answer questions about the recent presidential election in Taiwan.  About 200 people attended the meeting along with the new TECO Director-General, Kenneth Liao, his assistant, Su-Hsien Cheng, and Director Shu-Ling Lee.


TAA Picnic (Details, Story and Pictures)
TAA-DFW held its annual picnic on Saturday, 6/5/04.  About 100 people attended this outdoor event at the Cimarron Recration Center in Irving.  In addition to enjoying good food and good company, recent travelers to Taiwan shared their stories.  The afternoon ended with several relay games followed by presentation of prizes and singing of Taiwanese songs.
   

Lee Chao Seminars (Speaker Profile, Interview, Report and Pictures)
Author Lee Chao and Professor Kuo Ching Tu shared their knowledge of Taiwanese culture through three seminars held in Dallas on 5/29/04-5/31/04.
 

Hakka Culture Group in Dallas (Story and Pictures 1, 2, 3)
Taiwanese Hakka Association of Dallas and TAA-DFW sponsored the performance of Taiwanese Hakka Chorus, in Dallas on Saturday, May 8.  The group's visit coincided with the Taiwanese American Heritage Week, which occurs on the second week of May each year, as proclaimed by President Clinton in 1999.  The group was scheduled to tour 13 cities in US and Canada to promote Taiwanese culture through songs and dances.


Mayfest 2004 (Story and Pictures)
Taiwanese American Heritage Promotion Committee sponsored the Taiwan Booth at the Trinity Park in Fort Worth during this year's Mayfest, held on 4/29/04-5/2/04.  At the Taiwan Booth, visitors were treated with the art of making Taiwanese children's toys.  The event ended on a high note, as the team was invited back next year.  Also, both Fort Worth ISD and Library were interested in having the team display their art work in future events.
 

UT Arlington International Week (Story and Pictures)
The Taiwanese Student Association at UTA went all out to promote Taiwanese culture during UTA's International Week 2004, 3/28/04-4/2/04.  The Taiwan exhibit was extremely well received.


Dallas "228 Hand-in-Hand for Taiwan" Rally (DFW228 webpage)
This activity was held on Friday, 2/27/04, in support of the rally in Taiwan where 1,000,000+ people were expected to link their hands in a show of solidarity, protesting against China's military threat.  Approximately 200 participants turned out for the local activity, which included speeches, songs and linking of hands on the lawn of Formosan Christian Church of Dallas.


Dinner with Taiwan Legislator Lin Chung-Mo (Story and Pictures)
Dallas A-bian Re-election Campaign Committee invited Taiwanese legislator Lin Chung-Mo to speak to local Taiwanese Americans.  The dinner event took place on Wednesday, 2/18/04 at the August Moon Restaurant in Plano.

2004 Lunar New Year Party
(Announcement, Pictures)
The party celebrating the year of the Monkey was held on Saturday, 1/10/04, at Maxim's Restaurant in Richardson, TX.  Activities of the evening included, 2004 Membership Drive, New Board Members election, Taiwanese entertainments, Hawaiian dance performed by the Board Members and a Gifts Lotto.
